Knee pain when climbing stairs, an overloaded shoulder after training, ankle swelling after a sprain — these are common reasons for visiting an orthopaedist. An orthopaedic consultation with ultrasound allows the cause of symptoms to be assessed and treatment planned in a single visit. At OpenMed in Warsaw and Płock, our specialists combine a medical examination with musculoskeletal ultrasound, so you receive a concrete diagnosis and clear recommendations more quickly.

An orthopaedic consultation includes assessment of the musculoskeletal system structures: bones, joints, ligaments, tendons and muscles. Ultrasound is a safe and non-invasive imaging examination using sound waves. It allows real-time assessment of soft tissues, including tendon and ligament continuity, the presence of inflammation, joint fluid or post-traumatic changes. Importantly, the examination can be performed dynamically during movement, which further increases its diagnostic value.

At OpenMed, it is also possible to book a musculoskeletal ultrasound examination with a full diagnostic report.

When is an orthopaedic consultation with ultrasound recommended?

The most common indications are pain, swelling, limited mobility or injury. The consultation is particularly helpful in cases of:

  • fresh injuries, such as sprains, strains or suspected tendon damage,
  • chronic pain in the shoulder, knee, hip or wrist,
  • suspected overuse and inflammatory changes,
  • follow-up after orthopaedic procedures or during treatment.

In many situations, ultrasound makes it possible to avoid a long wait for other imaging studies, and a therapeutic decision can be made immediately during the visit.

What does an orthopaedic consultation with ultrasound at OpenMed involve?

The visit begins with a detailed medical interview. Our orthopaedic specialists ask about the nature of pain, duration of symptoms, circumstances of injury and previous treatment. An orthopaedic examination then follows — assessment of range of motion, joint stability, pressure pain and functional tests.

The next stage is the ultrasound examination. The doctor applies the transducer to the examined area, and the image appears on the monitor in real time. This allows precise assessment of tendons, ligaments, synovial bursae, cartilage and the presence of joint effusion. After the examination, our doctors discuss the result and present a further management plan in a clear and concrete manner.

Treatment plan at OpenMed Warsaw and Płock

After establishing a diagnosis, the doctors propose specific solutions. Depending on the problem, this may be conservative treatment, rehabilitation, anti-inflammatory pharmacotherapy or, in selected cases, qualification for a procedure. In our practice, we frequently use intra-articular and peri-articular injections performed under ultrasound guidance, allowing very precise delivery of the preparation directly to the affected area. In this way, we use, among other things, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), which supports regenerative processes in tendons, ligaments and joint structures.

The goal of the consultation is not only to relieve symptoms, but to determine the cause of the complaints and reduce the risk of their recurrence.
