Our midwife consultations are primarily aimed at expectant mothers seeking professional help, support and preparation for the upcoming delivery – natural birth or possible caesarean section. Together with the midwife, a birth plan is discussed; in addition, you can individually determine the topics of meetings, which are tailored to your needs and successively implemented through subsequent meetings.

A midwife is a person whom women should trust and feel free to turn to with any questions they have during each visit to an obstetrician and gynecologist specialist, concerning femininity and motherhood – from the moment of puberty through procreation and menopause.

Education and perinatal care with midwife

OpenMed Medical Centre offers comprehensive perinatal care, in which an experienced midwife plays a key role. Our service includes both prenatal education and postnatal care to provide expectant and new mothers with professional support at every stage of pregnancy, delivery and puerperium.

Scope of perinatal education with midwife

Prenatal education package includes three meetings, during which expectant mothers receive support in preparing for delivery, regardless of whether natural birth or caesarean section is planned. Each session lasts approximately 1.5 hours and provides valuable information that will help go through delivery and the first days after it in a conscious and prepared manner.

Support before natural birth:

Signs of approaching delivery and preparing a hospital bag
Discussion of birth plan (together with the mother)
Course of subsequent stages of delivery
Methods of relieving labor pain and the role of the accompanying person
Hospital care after delivery

Support before caesarean section:

Preparation for delivery (hospital bag) and discussion of birth plan
Preparation for caesarean section at home and in hospital
Course of procedure and postoperative care for mother and newborn
Role of accompanying person after caesarean section
Hospital care in subsequent days after caesarean section

Puerperium:

Course of puerperium, physical and psychological changes in women
Lactation support: learning proper breastfeeding technique, breastfeeding mother's diet, solving lactation problems
Preparation for bottle feeding if needed

Newborn care

Our midwife provides valuable guidance on newborn care, including:

Newborn care in hospital and at home
Techniques for holding, changing and feeding the baby (both breastfeeding and bottle feeding)
Information about newborn transitional states, screening tests and protective vaccinations

Midwife home visit

Midwife home visits are an excellent opportunity to receive support in caring for the newborn in the first days after leaving the hospital. During the visit, the midwife:

Weighs the newborn, assesses their development
Conducts instruction on bathing and care of the umbilical cord stump
Educates parents on child care and hygiene
Conducts assessment of mother's health during puerperium, including care of postpartum wounds (after natural birth or caesarean section)
If needed, provides lactation advice, including teaching proper latching of the baby to the breast and assessment of feeding effectiveness
