Skin lesion removal includes procedures performed to address various types of skin changes, such as warts, fibromas, epidermoid cysts, and moles. If you notice a new skin lesion, see it growing, or want to have it safely removed, we invite you to OpenMed in Warsaw (Wola) and to OpenMed in Plock. Our specialist doctors select the removal method based on the type of lesion, its location, and medical indications.

From a medical standpoint, skin lesions can be benign, inflammatory, or - less often - cancerous. That is why a dermatological assessment is important before removal. At OpenMed we examine every lesion under magnification (dermoscopy), which makes it possible to determine its nature and decide whether further diagnostics are needed.

Types of skin lesions and indications for removal

The most commonly removed lesions include fibromas, viral warts (verrucas), epidermoid cysts, pigmented moles, and small vascular lesions. The indication for the procedure can be either medical or aesthetic. Lesions that become irritated, bleed, or change appearance are also significant.

Worrying symptoms such as rapid growth of the lesion, change of colour, irregular shape, or itching always require a medical consultation before any decision on removal.

Dermatology at OpenMed

Consult skin lesions, acne, hair loss, moles, or the need for dermoscopy and cryotherapy.

Methods of removing skin lesions at OpenMed

At OpenMed in Warsaw and Plock we use several proven methods, selected individually based on the type of lesion and the expected outcome:

  • PLASMA IQ technology - precise evaporation of the lesion using plasma energy, used for example for small skin and aesthetic lesions,
  • curettage - mechanical removal of the lesion from the surface of the skin, often used for warts and epidermal lesions,
  • freezing (cryotherapy) - destruction of the lesion using liquid nitrogen, particularly effective in the treatment of verrucas and some benign lesions.

The choice of method depends on the type of lesion, its depth, and location. Our dermatologists discuss the available options and help select the solution most appropriate for the patient.

What does the procedure look like at OpenMed?

The procedure is preceded by a dermatology consultation. After assessing the lesion, the doctor proposes a removal method and explains the course of the procedure. Most procedures are performed on an outpatient basis and last from a few to a dozen or so minutes.

Depending on the method, local anaesthesia may be used. After the lesion is removed, the patient receives recommendations on skin care and information about healing time. In most cases, return to daily activities is possible the same day.

Safety and post-procedure follow-up

Skin lesion removal at OpenMed is performed in accordance with safety principles and current medical standards. In the case of lesions requiring a histopathological examination, the material can be sent for analysis.

After the procedure, it is important to follow the after-care recommendations and to monitor the area where the lesion was removed. Our specialists remain available for follow-up appointments and further treatment if needed.

Skin lesion removal - FAQ

Not always. A dermatology assessment is required first. In most cases, removal is possible during the same visit if there are no contraindications.

The procedures are usually well tolerated. If needed, we use local anaesthesia to minimise discomfort.

Healing time depends on the method and size of the lesion, usually ranging from a few days to several weeks.

If a cancerous lesion is suspected or the picture is unclear, the dermatologist may recommend a histopathological examination.

Some lesions, especially viral ones, can recur. That is why follow-up and possible further treatment are important.

No special preparation is usually required. It is worth bringing any previous test results or photographs documenting the lesion. The doctor will advise on any specific recommendations before the procedure.
