Pediatric gastroenterology deals with the diagnosis and treatment of digestive system diseases in infants, children and adolescents. It covers disorders of the oesophagus, stomach, intestines, liver, bile ducts and pancreas, taking into account the specifics of developmental age (growth, nutrition, immunity).
At OpenMed we offer consultations with a pediatric gastroenterologist in Warsaw and Płock. The visit allows us to determine the cause of symptoms and plan further treatment tailored to the child's age.
Consultations are provided by, among others, Dr Aleksandra Marach, a pediatric gastroenterology specialist who deals with the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases in children.

What does a visit to a pediatric gastroenterologist at OpenMed in Warsaw and Płock look like?
First, the doctor at our OpenMed Medical Centre conducts a detailed interview with the carer and child (diet, bowel habits, past illnesses, previous treatment, growth rate), requests access to the health booklet and test results. Then performs a physical examination, with particular attention to the abdomen and assessment of hydration and nutritional status.
During the visit:
- a physical examination is performed,
- previous test results are analysed,
- a plan for further diagnostics or treatment is established.
Depending on the situation, the child remains in the care of the parent throughout the visit.
If necessary, further diagnostics are ordered, e.g.:
- blood tests (including full blood count, CRP, liver parameters, coeliac disease) and stool tests (including calprotectin),
- abdominal ultrasound,
- breath tests (e.g. for lactose intolerance/SIBO),
- dietary consultations and elimination-provocation trials,
- endoscopy (gastroscopy/colonoscopy) — in children performed under anaesthesia when indicated.
The doctor may also suggest dietary modifications and pharmacological treatment tailored to the child's age and body weight.
What conditions does a pediatric gastroenterologist treat?
- gastro-oesophageal reflux (GER/GERD) in infants and children,
- chronic abdominal pain, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS),
- constipation, chronic diarrhoea, SIBO,
